Sam Jackson

Hi!  I’m Sam Jackson. I live in Riverside Ohio with my wife Terri & our little boy Jamison. My idea of a great weekend is sitting on the porch swing with my wife, the music cranked up, beer in hand, and watching the traffic go by. We love inviting our friends over on a Saturday night and hanging out by the bon fire with the country music blasting. My wife & I are huge horror movie fans so we also enjoy going to horror conventions and meeting celebrates. The coolest person I ever met was Robert England AKA Freddy Krueger. My wife & I are huge country fans. My favorite is Florida Georgia Line. Her favorite is Luke Bryan. She says it’s because of all of his hit songs but I think she’s in love with him, sooo there’s that!

Where were you born?

Riverside, OH

What is your favorite TV show?

Anything with action, 24, Sons of Anarchy, Person of Interest. There has to be a lot of explosions.

What was the first thing you ever wanted to be?

For as long as I can remember I wanted to be on the radio. I used to rent radio broadcasting books from the library in 4th grade and read them. Everyone else had goosebumps, I had broadcasting books.

How might someone have described you in high school?

I sort of had a Hippie mentality. Very laid back & easy going. I went with the flow on just about everything & tried not to stress out. Life is too short to stress the small things.

What was your first job?

I had two jobs, I worked for my high school radio station “WDPS” after school in a paid position, then I would go from there to the Dayton Metro Library and I would shelve books. I bought my fist car on my own with those jobs without any help from my parents.

What was your first job in radio?

I worked for my high school radio station playing Jazz music. They paid you minimum wage to work there after school. I was not a big fan of Jazz but loved giving away prizes like concert tickets & CD’

What do you like about your job?

I’m a huge country fan, the best part of my job is hearing all the new country music coming out and then I get to turn around and play it for you, and then talk about it how cool it is. It’s truly a dream come true.

What might people be surprised to know about you?

I can play the drums. I was in a rock band in high school. No, we were not that good but I was an awesome drummer.

What would be a perfect day for you?

I absolutely love concerts so my perfect day is hanging out at Country Concert with my wife, cold beer in hand, and watching whoever is on stage.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to go into the business?

Do not be afraid to start from the bottom & work your way up. I started as an intern in radio, took a board op job from there and never told my boss no. Make yourself available and like a sponge, soak up everything you can. You need to have the attitude of “eat, sleep, & breathe radio” Hard word & dedication pays off. If you can get your foot in the door, stick with it and work your butt off. Smile and volunteer to learn everything.   Favorites
