Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is based on the principle that designing a physical environment that positively influences human behavior can prevent crime and promote businesses. CPTED is based on four principles: natural access control, natural surveillance, territoriality and maintenance. CPTED is a recognized and cost effective crime prevention strategy. Learning and applying these strategies can help organizations increase safety, raise the value of properties and reduce insurance costs. It can assist in reclaiming entire neighborhoods or areas from blight and crime. Who Should Attend: CPTED strategies are ideal for law enforcement officers, city planners, city government officials, architects/engineers, landscape architects, hospitals, real estate agents and anyone involved in economic and neighborhood redevelopment. In this 40 hour course, learn the basics of the CPTED principles and how they work. Upon completion of this course, participates will be able to: •List and give examples of Generation #1 & #2 CPTED strategies •Explain the underlying principles of CPTED and CPTED theory •Apply Generation #1 & #2 CPTED solutions to a variety of situations •Outline the history of CPTED and defensible space •Define a problem as it is understood in Problem Oriented Policing •Utilize partners and stake holders to move CPTED projects forward •List and explain practical techniques for target hardening, lighting, landscaping and barriers •Consider CPTED principle when assisting in a remodeling review •Read site plans and apply CPTED principles to them •Understand how CPTED is affected by zoning laws •Understand the relationship of lighting to safety and CPTED •Understand CPTED and report writing •Organize and present a CPTED site survey/assessment in writing and in an oral presentation •Pass a written exam without reference covering all materials presented in the course Monday, February 25 – Friday, March 1, 2013 8:00 am – 5:00 pm $795/person For more information go to: http://www.cvent.com/d/ccqcbm Sinclair Workforce Development The Learning Center @ Miami Valley Research Park 1900 Founders Drive Suite 100 Kettering, OH 45420
