28th Annual MLK Evening Celebration
The 28th Annual MLK Evening Celebration will be held in the Lebanon Junior High School Auditorium beginning at 7 pm. The celebration will include recognizing Photography Dunn Well and Mr. Jay Mills as the 2013 Drum Major for Service Award recipients. The program will feature music from Tom Giron and Jay Mills, and a performance by Children of God Mime Ministry. The Coalition will also recognize students from Lebanon City Schools who participated in the MLK Essay Contest and Art Show. The highlight of the evening will be the MLK Speaker, VA Chaplain Rev. Dr. Wendell Rome. This event is free and open to the public.
Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Service Award Winners
Community Leader: The recipient of the 2013 MLK Drum Major for Service Award is Jay Mills. His dedication and tireless work in the community has been a blessing to many that have benefited from his service and commitment to arts and music. Jay also served as the chairperson of the MLK Celebration for several years as well as the director of the MLK Community Choir.
Organization: Photography Dunn Well has been selected as the Drum Major for Service Organization of 2013 because of their continued support and dedication to the MLK Celebration in Lebanon. Wayne and Georgia Dunn have supported the annual event through volunteering, committee work, photography and also participating in the MLK Community Choir.
Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest
Students from Lebanon City School district grades 5 through 12 were encouraged to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest. This annual contest will award cash prizes provided by The Lebanon Optimist Club. The winners will be announced at the MLK Evening Celebration. Martin Luther King Jr. Art Exhibition
Under the direction of Amy Brewer, Donovan Elementary School Art Teacher (and Mayor of Lebanon), third and fourth grade students are creating art work that celebrates the life and works of Martin Luther King which will be on display at the MLK Evening Celebration.
