Kelly Clarkson Considers Going Country

By Nancy Wilson

Kelly Clarkson, the original "American Idol," spent much of last year on tour with Reba McEntire, as well as settling into her new home in Nashville. So the speculation about a future country album from the pop princess was inevitable. But will she add fiddle and steel to her repertoire anytime soon?

"I never know what I'm gonna do in the future, but I grew up loving country music. It's one of the things that's been really close to me," Clarkson tells Popeater. "I did a lot of country events, so I think people were thinking I was gonna [record a country album]. But the thing I love about pop music is that you can kind of incorporate any style you want ...There's always gonna be those influences in my music, but I'll probably never just do one thing. I would be bored out of my mind."

So maybe we don't have an entire country album to look forward to from Clarkson, but what about another country collaboration, like her mega-hit duet, 'Because of You' with McEntire? Popeater asked the Texas-born songbird if she'd ever consider singing with country's music's first 'Idol' winner, Carrie Underwood.

"Definitely! She's got a kick-butt voice," Clarkson says of Underwood. "I like Miranda Lambert, too -- I'm a huge fan of hers. I love Carrie, but the thing I dig about Miranda is she's just so feisty. She doesn't care. It's very admirable, and I dig her writing."

Clarkson releases her fourth pop album, 'All I Ever Wanted,' on March 17.
