Bucky Covington Going Overseas

By Nancy Wilson

Bucky Covington has booked his first overseas concert tour, but it's not one that will take place in typical music theaters or dance halls. This one is a USO tour in which he'll be playing free shows for American soldiers in the areas where the troops work and live on a daily basis, says theboot.com.

"I've been looking forward to doing a USO tour for a very long time," Bucky says. "To be able to perform for and meet the men and women who serve our country is a great honor. I'm also really excited to bring a little bit of home to our troops overseas, and since this will be my first trip outside the U.S., except for a short visit to Jamaica, I know it'll be a big adventure."

Bucky's schedule kicks off with a Feb. 17 date at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo and continues through Feb. 23 with a show in The Netherlands and three at sites in Germany. It makes him just the latest in a long line of country stars who've gone overseas for the USO dating as far back as World War II when Gene Autry played for troops in China, Burma and India. Since then, participants have included Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Diamond Rio and Craig Morgan, just to name a handful.
