Jo Dee Messina, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley Join Earth Hour

By Nancy Wilson

Several musicians are preparing to turn their lights off, but not because they can't afford their electric bills. Theboot.com says Jo Dee Messina, Lady Antebellum, Vince Gill and Dierks Bentley are just a few of the names joining a worldwide effort on called Earth Hour, to raise awareness of various problems brought about by climate change.

Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour will happen at 8:30 PM local time on March 28. Homes and business are asked to turn off their lights for one full hour at that time. Earth Hour will take place in 62 countries and 74 cities all around the world, with an estimated projection of over 50 million participants.

As an official celebrity spokesperson for the event, Messina is excited to be on board. "When it comes to the environment, we all play a part and it's up to all of us to take action," Messina said. "That is why Earth Hour is such a great campaign. It lets something as simple as flicking a light switch become so much more. Earth Hour reminds everyone that if we all put in a little effort, we can achieve big results."

Other artists participating include Wynonna, SHeDAISY, Terri Clark, Kathy Mattea and Big & Rich's Big Kenny. For more information, visit www.earthhourus.org.
