Gretchen Wilson, Record Label Part Ways

By Nancy Wilson

Gretchen Wilson is no longer a part of the Sony Music Nashville family, says theboot.com. In what the record label says was a mutual decision, Gretchen and Sony are parting ways after three No. 1 albums, platinum sales, a Grammy and several other accolades.

Gretchen burst onto the country music scene with her 2004 album, Here for the Party, which spawned four Top 10 hits and five-times platinum sales. Her sophomore disc, All Jacked Up, also received platinum certification and even made the record books, as its title track was the highest-debuting single for a female country artist. But it was with her third album, One of the Boys, that Gretchen started to lose momentum. While it debuted at No. 1 on the country album charts, none of its singles managed to reach the Top 20.

Gretchen was planning a fourth album for Sony, 'I've Got Your Country Right Here,' expected for release this fall. Its first single, 'Don't Do Me No Good,' peaked at No. 43, while its second single, 'Don't Make Me Take My Earrings Out,' failed to chart. It's not known yet whether Gretchen will release the album through another label. Sony does report that they will continue to work with the singer on "future catalogue projects."
