George Strait will be crowned the ACM 'Artist of the Decade' during an All Star Concert airing on the CBS Television Network this Wednesday, May 27 at 8:00 PM, Eastern. 

Taped back in April at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the special pays tribute to the 25-year career of Strait along with his many accomplishments.  Dubbed the "King of Country", GeorgeStrait holds the record for the most number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with 43 number one singles, and currently has 56 number one singles in all charts under his belt, as reported by Jacqueline Lewandowski with the Examiner.  

 

Recording artists who will perform at the special include Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Jack Ingram, Alan Jackson, Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry, John Rich, LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Keith Urban, Lee Ann Womack, and a duet between Miranda Lambert and boyfriend Blake Shelton.

 

Specifically you can expect artist Alan Jackson to sing "Fireman", because it has sentimental value to the singer. Jackson played that song in the bars and clubs during the years when he was trying to make it big on the music scene as a familiar tune to get the crowds attention.

 

Jamey Johnson will sing "Give it Away" because not only did he write the lyrics, but lived them as well.

 Taylor Swift, who refers to Strait as a second father will sing "Run" because the message of longing and desperation to be with that special someone is something she finds captivating.

 

Also, Lee Ann Womack is expected to perform a new single dedicated to and in honor of Strait.

 

Only four other acts have received the Artist of the Decade honor.  Those include Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988 and GarthBrooks in 1998. This marks the first time the honor will be presented in a separate television special.

 

Garth Brooks says of Strait: "I remember being a teenager listening to the radio when the DJ played a new song by a new artist. That was the moment I realized what I wanted to be in life, I wanted to be GeorgeStrait."

 

Judging by the flock of artists willing to sing in honor of him, it looks like everyone else does too.
