Mr. (Garth) Brooks Goes to Washington

By Nancy Wilson

Garth Brooks made the trek to Washington, DC, this week, which is not that unheard of.  But during his visit, two unusual things DID happen.  First, it's a rarity for a singer to pal around and shake the hand of the President of the United States.  Second, it's even more of a rarity to see Garth in a suit, without his trademark cowboy hat!   CBSnews.com has the story.

Garth Brooks on What It's Like to Meet Obama

Bob Schieffer caught up with country music star Garth Brooks at last night's "Grammys on the Hill," an event to support intellectual property rights.

In an exclusive interview, CBS News learned the country music star was at the White House yesterday to present President Obama with a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for "The Audacity of Hope." This is actually the President's second Grammy- he won the same category in 2006 for "Dreams From My Father."

"We're the same except I don't have the peace prize," Brooks joked with Schieffer about his own two Grammys.

Schieffer -- a country musician himself -- also lead a group of Congressmen in a rendition of "Friends in Low Places" as a tribute to Brooks. In the group were Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), on the tambourine.
