Carrie Underwood Honors Fallen Truck Driver

Carrie Underwood Truck Driver Dies in Crash

One of Carrie Underwood's truck drivers was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving plunged off Interstate 95 in North Stonington, Conn. on Saturday. The truck was carrying staging for Carrie's Play On tour, which went on as scheduled at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. over the weekend.
The identity of the driver, who died at the scene, would not be released until confirmed through dental records over the next few days, according to theday.com. State police said the accident happened early Saturday morning, when the truck, which was traveling north in the left lane, crossed the left shoulder and struck a guardrail, igniting the fuel tanks and sending the rig up in flames, before it tumbled over the bridge. Preliminary observations, according to one officer at the scene, indicate the driver fell asleep, since there did not appear to be any skid marks on the roadway.
The Norwich Bulletin newspaper reports that during her show Saturday, Carrie informed the crowd of the accident, dedicating her song 'Temporary Home' to the truck driver and his family. The singer remained poised through most of the song, but became a bit tearful toward the end, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
Just last month, singer Trace Adkins' band bus was involved in a fatal accident in which two people were killed and five were injured in a collision in Louisiana. And last November, Miley Cyrus' bus was involved in an accident which killed the driver of one of her tour buses.
Carrie's next stop on her Play On tour after tonight's show in Worcester, Mass., is scheduled for Tuesday (March 23) in Hamilton, Ont.
