Lots of country artists cover rock and roll songs and vice versa, cause they like to pay tribute to other singers who influence them.  Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" tour has been chock full of cover versions of songs (and guest appearances) by artists like Justin Bieber, Eminem, Rihanna, and Bon Jovi, and Luke Bryan showed us at Troy's Hobart Arena he can do a mean version of Poison's "Nothing But a Good Time."  Two recent "covers" that caught my eye and I want to share with you are Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" covered by the Band Perry and Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" done by Little Big Town (in the middle of a Waffle House no less!)  Here's Neil, Reid and Kimberly covering Queen during Billboard Magazine's Mash-up Monday.   It's all part of billboard.com's series that takes artists out of their genres for a song.   Which, Kimberly says, is not stretch for her, who says she's always admired lead singer Freddie Mercury.   "Freddie is my most favorite entertainer of all time.  He's so real but at the same time, he's so dramatic,” she says.   “And I think it's a really fine line to be relatable to your audience, but also you have that rock star presence. And Freddie was all of those things.”    See more here.  No wonder they're up for New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards November 9th!
