Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.  Millions of us still share the shock, grief and sadness after witnessing terrorist crash two planes into New York's World Trade Center's twin towers, another in the Pentagon and a fourth crash into a Pennsylvania field.    Alan Jackson put the words to music six weeks later and then performed "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning" at the CMA Awards.  "The song really came out of nowhere in the middle of the night," he recalls. "It was just a gift. I got up and scribbled it down and put the melody down so I wouldn't forget it, and the next day I started piecing all those verses together, thoughts I had or visuals I had."   Alan tells the Boot it was a tough song to sing, but it changed people.  "I had so many people tell me that there was something ... whether it was go to church or pick up their Bible or go see their mother or watch a sunset. People said they quit their jobs and they changed their lifestyles and started going to church and found somebody to marry."   Read all about it here.   Look for Alan in Washington DC Sunday to perform the award winning song at the Washington National Cathedral as part of the 'A Call to Compassion,'  on ABC at 8pm.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvj6zdWLUuk
