In what should have been a triumphant night for songbird Adele, who won six Grammys, the 54th Annual Awards show began on a somber note.    After Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked things off, host LL Cool J opened with a prayer in memory of Whitney Houston, who passed away Saturday.

Jennifer Hudson's amazing performance of Whitney's version of Dolly Parton's song, "I Will Always Love You" brought many to tears.

Taylor Swift took home two awards in the country music categorie for “Mean”  for Best Solo Country Performance and Best Country Song.   “There is no feeling quite like writing a song about someone who is mean to you and makes your life miserable and winning a Grammy for it,” she said while accepting the trophy for Best Country Solo Performance.   “Thank you.”

Lady Antebellum took home the Grammy for Best Country Album for Own the Night.   The trio was clearly shocked.  “We did not expect this,” Hillary Scott said.    Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson performed their Grammy-nominated tune “Don’t You Wanna Stay” despite some sound issues.

Glen Campbell was given a Lifetime Achievement Award, capped with a phenomenal performance and tribute with help from The Band Perry and Blake Shelton

Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett took to the stage for a duet on “It Had To Be You.”
