Scotty McCreery uses Tim McGraw for eliminated Idols

By Nancy Wilson

American Idol contestants who are sent packing this season will be serenaded by last year's winner Scotty McCreery for their farewell song.   Scotty has recorded Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me" to be used as the Idol elimination song this year, debuting tonight.    "I was ecstatic and I'm glad to get to be on there. It's cool to still be connected to the show every week," Scotty told USA Today. "Most likely, I'll be able to come back and perform and get to see all those familiar faces and give the current Idols some advice."     Scotty will be back at some point this year to perform on the show, runner-up Lauren Alaina will sing "Georgia Peaches" on tonight's elimination show.    During last year's finale, Scotty dueted with Tim, "I sent (McGraw) a little message and told him we just cut it (Please Remember Me)  and it was going to be on Idol every week. He said, 'Oh, man. That's really cool. I'm sure you nailed it.' He gave me some good feedback."     Read more here.

Tim and Scotty during last year's American Idol finale.    Right now,  Scotty is on tour with Brad Paisley and plans to play baseball during his senior year in high school.     The "farewell" songs began back in Season 5 with Daniel Powter's "Bad Day."  Since then, it's been performed by an Idol singer.   Season 6 it was Daughtry's song "Home."  Season 7, it was Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard's version of "Celebrate Me Home."   During Season 8, the "go home" song was Carrie Underwood's "Home Sweet Home."   Season 9's song was performed by Will Young, "Leave Right Now."   Last year, David Cook performed "Don't You (Forget About Me)."   Although Scotty never had to hear the so long, he gets it.   "Every week, when the song would play and we'd have to watch the goodbye video, it was always a tough time.  I never had to experience it, but I always felt it."     Here's a sneak listen to Scotty's version, available on itunes starting today.
