She snapped pictures of the young black bear.
“He acted confused, like he didn’t know which way he wanted to go. One minute he was headed east, and then he wanted to go west, he just kept circling,” Stephens said.
She said he hopes the bear is safe and no one hurts it.
“I don’t want anyone to shoot him or try to capture him, that’s what I worry about too,” Stephens said.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources emphasized that black bears are protected under Ohio’s endangered species list.
ODNR cannot confirm if all the bear sightings in the Miami Valley are the same animal.
Those sightings began with a young bear in Clinton County.
Then two different sightings in Greene County, outside Xenia and Beavercreek.
There were also two different sightings in Huber Heights.
Now, on two different occasions, a young bear has been spotted by people in Clark County.
“I don’t think he was a cub, but I knew that he wasn’t an adult because he was still kind of small,” Stephens said.
ODNR said they do not plan to catch or relocate the bear; they believe it will likely move out of the area on its own.
We will continue to follow this story.
