When they arrived, they found a fully engulfed vehicle, and a large part of the field was on fire.

“Traffic control was also needed due to heavy smoke in the area, which was provided by the Mechanicsburg Police Department and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. After approximately one hour, crews were able to mark the situation contained,” the Mechanicsburg Fire Department said.

The Central Townships Joint Fire District assisted.

They said in a Facebook post that they found several acres of harvested fields on fire. This included multiple fires in standing corn.

No injuries were reported.
