Apple has decided to retire the iPod Touch, the last version in a series of devices that revolutionized digital music.
In an announcement on their website, Apple said that while the iPod Touch would be available “while supplies last,” the company would not be producing any more.
“Today, the spirit of iPod lives on,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing said in a statement. “We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products.”
The iPod was first introduced in 2001, and held an impressive at the time “up to 1,000 CD-quality songs,” CNBC reported. The first iPod Touch was introduced in 2007, the latest in 2019.
In 2017, Apple announced it had discontinued both the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano, neither of which were able to run iOS apps, Variety reported.
In its announcement, Apple said customers could continue to buy iPod Touch devices available through their stores or authorized resellers “while supplies last.”
