More PS5 consoles to hit market for holidays, Sony promises

It has already become one of the must-haves of 2020, but PlayStation 5 consoles are hard to come by right now.

Sony, makers of the PlayStation, said more are on the way and they’ll be available before the end of the year, The Verge reported.

Company officials said to keep checking with retailers to see they have them in stock.

The rush for gaming systems isn’t just hitting Sony. Its competitor, the Xbox Series X/S, is also difficult to find.

Microsoft, the maker of the Xbox, said they will be in short supply until spring, The Verge reported.

Sony has not released how many units were sold, Polygon reported. But according to Sony, the PlayStation 4 sold more than 2.1 million consoles within the first two weeks of that system’s launch.

Overall the PS4 sold 113.5 million systems, Forbes reported.

Microsoft, which did not release numbers concerning the newest Xbox launch, sold more than a million Xbox Ones on the first day of sales in 2013, according to Polygon.

No matter the sales numbers, industry experts are not sure who is actually buying the systems, whether it is gamers buying them for home use, or scalpers who are scooping up the hardware looking to turn a tidy profit reselling them, Polygon reported.
