Purdue University head football coach Jeff Brohm presumed positive for COVID-19, school confirms

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University head football coach Jeff Brohm had a presumed positive test for COVID-19 on Sunday, the school’s athletics department announced.

“During Purdue’s daily COVID-19 testing on Sunday, Oct. 18, head football coach Jeff Brohm returned a presumed positive result via an antigen test. We are awaiting confirmation via a PCR test,” Purdue Athletics stated in a news release.

Purdue is slated to begin its season against the University of Iowa on Saturday, WXIN reported.

Brohm, who is self-isolating at home, is expected to speak with reporters during his regularly scheduled Zoom call on Monday morning, ESPN reported.

Brohm, 49, enters his fourth season leading the Boilermakers with a record of 17-21. The former NFL and XFL quarterback is 47-31 overall as a college head coach, the sports news network reported.

According to the university’s statement, Brohm informed his staff and the team of his test results on Sunday afternoon, WXIN reported.

Other major college football coaches known to have tested positive for COVID-19 to date include the University of Florida’s Dan Mullen, the University of Alabama’s Nick Saban, Florida State University’s Mike Norvell, the University of Arizona’s Kevin Sumlin and the University of Kansas' Les Miles.

Saban was cleared to coach the Crimson Tide on Saturday, three days after a false positive test.
