Robert Carter, of Hamilton County, Ohio, knows what it is like to be in foster care and being separated from his nine brothers and sisters, WXIX reported.

When he was old enough, Carter was granted custody of a sister and guardianship of a brother, WLWT reported.

On National Adoption Day, Carter became a father himself, adopting five siblings at one time to make sure they were never separated like he had been.

Carter was originally a foster father for Robert Jr., Giovanni and Kiontae as they were assigned to him last December.

He found out the children had two other sisters: Marionna and Makayla, whom the children had been separated from for six months.

All the kids had a chance to get together, but when it was time to go, it was difficult.

“We met up for visits, and all the kids were crying. They didn’t want to leave each other, and at that moment, I knew, OK, I have to adopt all five,” Carter told WXIX.
