When the power went out at an H-E-B in Austin Tuesday afternoon clerks allowed people in line to leave with the groceries in their carts.

“You just hear (clerks at) registers say, ‘Go ahead,’” Shelby Lasker told the Austin American-Stateman. “I think they could tell how upset people were.”

Hundreds of shoppers were at the store stocking up during a statewide emergency, The Washington Post reported. The state has been hit with torrential winter weather that has swept across much of the south leading to power outages and burst pipes.

And it hit us — like, wow, they’re just letting us walk out the door,” Tim Hennessy, 60, told The Post.

H-E-B has not commented but did confirm customer’s stories on social media.
