Thanksgiving shooting: Toddler critically hurt after finding, firing gun in Michigan, police say

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A toddler was critically injured after police said the child found and accidentally fired a gun in a Michigan home on Thanksgiving Day.

According to WEYI and WJRT, the incident occurred about 4 p.m. Thursday in Grand Blanc Township. The 3-year-old, who was inside a bedroom of a home in the Maplebook Village Condominiums complex, apparently discovered the weapon, which discharged and struck the toddler in the head, Grand Blanc police said.

The child, who suffered a critical injury, is being treated at a nearby hospital, WJRT reported. Nobody else was hurt, Grand Blanc police wrote in a Facebook post.

Police continue to investigate the case, according to the news outlets. No further information was immediately available.
